The history of Les 7 Laux can be broken down into several major stages, each of which has had a profound impact on this emblematic site. From its birth in 1962 as the result of a desire by the inter-municipal syndicate to develop the Massifs des Fanges, Roche Noire and 7 Laux, to the major investments made in 1996, the resort has been a veritable craze.
From 1962 to 1991: the beginnings of a great estate
The desire to develop these splendid massifs by an intercommunal syndicate of 7 communes was all that was needed to give birth to an ambitious project. The resort was created in 1971, with the construction of access roads and the installation of seven lifts. It took almost 15 years to obtain the necessary concessions and the first developments, before seeing the creation of the 1st beds in 1977. A vast real estate project was then developed, with an initial target of 3,500 beds at Prapoutel and 1,200 at Pleynet. With this in mind, it was time to think in terms of infrastructure and amenities.
First 4-seater chairlifts, notably the Jasse chairlift, a strategic axis for access to the resort, the Pouta chairlift on the Prapoutel side to reach summits at 2400 m, and the L’oursière chairlift for very snowy slopes. The first sports facilities, such as a climbing wall and an aquatic center, to meet the needs of all.
1992 to 1996: difficulties before renewal
After a promising start, the resort, like others in the département, experienced a number of financial difficulties before experiencing a revival and good times.
From 1996 to 2010: renewal and boom years
New investments and mechanical developments, such as the TSF du Lac and artificial snow, breathed new life into the resort. Incredible seasons enabled us to invest in ever more modern and numerous ski lifts, thus consolidating Les 7laux’s popularity and reputation . 2009 and 2010 were record visitor seasons.
From 2011 to today: a resort that knows how to adapt
Since 2011, the ski seasons have followed each other and have never been the same. The weather and snow conditions are capricious, but thanks to the snowmaking system and the lifts that allow skiers to ski at altitude, it’s possible to satisfy skiers every year.
Les 7 Laux has also expanded to offer a wide range of summer activities and to welcome holidaymakers in search of new sensations and new mountain experiences.
